Density - the number of people per square km.
(When describing a map use figures)
When describing patterns on maps you must -
- OVERALL - is the data even or uneven
- PATTERN - where are the maximum and minimum or different countries
- PLACE - give a location
- DATA - give figures for the patterns
- ANOMOLIES - are there any odd ones out

Dependecy ratios
It tells us how many young people (under 1) and older people (over 65) depend on people of working age (1-64) i.e. the economically active
The dependency ratio = (% under 15) + (%over 65) X 100

What are the problems associated with a youthful population?
Many children and fewer working adults. More schools needed to educate poopulation
One Child Polocy in China
Why was it needed?
- China was becoming over populated, a lack of food and drinking water
Why did they introduce it?
- Country would be over populated
- Famine, pollution, over cultivation, poverty, disease, homelessnes.
How did they introduce it?
- They told people, and if they didnt notify the goverment, you would have to pay large fines
Problems
- Preference for boys lead to higher male population by 60 million
- 120 boys there are 100 girls
- An elderly population
Advantages
- Population growth has decreases for people to have enough food and jobs
- The population 1:230 million less than it should have been today
How has it changed recently?
- China has become more flexible allowing couples to have a second child if there first is a girl
Overpopulation and underpopulation
Overpopulation - There are too many people and not enough resources to support a satisfactory quality of life
What are the causes of overpopulation?
- Decline in Death Rate
- Better Medical Facilities
- Immigration
- Lack of family planning
- Large families, trees being cut down and industry
- Optimum population…
