Hydrogen gas is less dense than air and so was used to fill early airships. However, hydrogen gas is very flammable.
Hydrogen gas is colourless and odourless. When hydrogen is mixed with air, it is highly flammable. To test for hydrogen, place a lighted splint in a hydrogen and air mixture. A squeaky pop is heard.
