Q.Why do many members of the House of Representatives try to become senators?

?

The House od Representatives is very diverse and has little power, therefore members are limited in what they can achieve, in contrast to a Senate member who has a lot of power and responsibility. There are 435 members of the House, each member represents a congressional district, the number of districts per state depends on population. Which means states with large populations, such as California or Texas, have more House representatives, thus their power and influence is split and as a result less effective. The Senate however, only has 100 seats, each member represnts one state, with 2 senators per state regardless of geographical size or population. Therefore, senators have a lot more power and influence both in Congress and their own constituency as they have a stronger mandate to govern. The House has three significan powers, which include the power to initiate bills, the power of impeachment and the power to elect the president should the electoral college deadlock, as it did with John Quincy Adams. In contrast, the Senate, has many more powers, , they confirm appointment made by the executive, and ratify or reject treaties as they did with the 1919 Versailles treaty. Showing their controlin both domestic an foreign affairs. They also try cases of impeachment, Clinton 1998, and elect the Vice President in the case of electoral deadlock. Senators have a lot more power and influence than House Representatives in their local regions as they hold constitutional jurisdiction over states, where as House members are only limited to control over finance and tax, thus the role of senator is more appealing…
