Probability corresponds to relative frequency

Relative frequency = Frequency/N

Skewness - deviation from symmetry (same shape on both sides of centre)

Describing skewed data:

  • If data are skewed - presnet meadian in prefernece to mean
  • If data are not skewed - present mean in preference to median

Modality - number of major peaks in a distribution

Kurtosis - peakedness of a distribution

Normal Distributions

Key Features:

  • symmetrical around the mean
  • mean =meadian
  • more observations closer to the mean
  • fewer observations as distance from mean increases
  • lines does not touvh the x axis
