1848 - Chadwick report shows the government that something must be done about poor living conditions in towns. Shows that poverty causes ill health and ill health causes poverty
1848 - First public health act, says towns should improve hygiene by removing sewage, introducing clean water and appointing district medical officers. However this isn't effective as only a few towns make improvements. (rich don't want extra expense, no knowledge of germs and it isn't compulsory)
1854 - John Snow discovers the connection between contaminated water and cholera
1875 - Second public health act (because - working men can vote, more disease, knowledge of germs) means…
