It aims to sever the brain circuits that control emotions and emotional responses in hopes that the interruption will cut the circuits off and therefore treat the abnormal behaviour. Overall, psychosurgery aims to give some quality of life to a patient who ability to function normally has been severely restricted by their disorder.
