EXPERIMENTAL KEY DEFINITIONS
Iv (independant variable) is the variable that is manipulated.
Dv (depandant variable) is the variable that is measured.
Operationalistion is defining variables so they can be manipulated, measured and replicated.
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGNS
Independent group design - an experimental design in which different groups of participants are used for each level (type) of the IV
Dis - may be individual differences between participants that could influence findings.
Ad - participants are less likely to spot the aim of the experiment and respond to them.
Repeated measures design - each participant preforms in each level of the IV (so the same participants are used for each IV basically)
Dis - more likely to spot the aim of the experiment and respond to them.
Ad - any differences in participants will affect both levels of the IV by the same amount.
Matched pairs design - participants are arranged into pairs (similar to each other) and they each preform in one of the levels of the IV
Dis - time consuming to find similar participants (twins are perfect for this)
SOURCES OF ERROR & HOW TO CONTROL THEM.
participant variables - individual differences between participants that could affect reponses in a study (repeated measure desig will minimalise the affect…
