Phobia
-an irrational fear that disrupts normal behaviour
-an excessive and unreasonable fear which interferes with normal functioning: often accompanied by fainting, mild depression etc.
-triggered from a young age: Learning Behaviour
Clinical characteristics:
1. the immediate reaction is a heightened stress response (GAS-the flight or fight response)
2.this can lead to tightness in the chest and hyperventilation (breathing difficulties)
3. hyperventilation can lead to light-headedness, pins and needles and painful muscle contractions
