Freud's Psychoanalytical Theory of Gender
Gender is developed by unconscious processes.
Gender develops in the Phallic stage (3-5) and boys and girls go through different experiences
Oedipus Complex:
Boy fancies mom. Scared dad will find out and cut his penis off (castration anxiety). Identifies with the father to make the mother love his and internalises his father's behaviours solving the complex and learning the male gender.
Electra Complex:
Girls fancy father. Thinks mother has already castrated her so replaces the want for a penis for a baby. Identifies…
