Pseudoscience in Parapsychology

Pseudoscience is the term used to describe a 'false' science.

  • Lacks theory to explain the effects - The aim of scientific research is to construct theories. Most paranormal phenomena have not, as yet, been given theoretical explanations. e.g. ESP does not have proof and doesnt explain how objects can move without being touched. The society of psychical research acknowledges that psychical research will not attain scientific respectability until is has some theoretical basis.
  • Lack ability to change - A key characteristic of science is that explanations are adapted as a result
