Milgrams work on obedience stemmed from Nazi atrocities duting WW2. It was widely believed that Hitler himself was an evil genius. but he relied on the co-operation of millions of people to carry out his plans, including 'the final solution'. Over 11 million lives were lost during the holocaust because of cruel racial prejudice. Prejudice against Jews and other 'undesirables' was encouraged. The Nazi's developed 'the final solution', a plan to get rid of all Jews. They set up camps to exterminate them so they wouldnot pass on their genes and disrupt the nazis quest for the perfect race. Milgram wrote, 'Gas chambers were built, death camps were guarded, daily quotas of corpses were produced with the same effiecienct as the maufacture of appliances.'
