Provisional gov reform of the army and the church

1st prime minister Manuel Alazana of SR in oct 1931 

 administration wanted to limit the army in gov as they held too much power in the previous regime.

> 40% of military figures forced to retire (8000 men)

>soldier in numbers reduced as a result of the gov believing they had too much manpower and needed to save money in the economic situation. 

>reforms showed that the military could face civil law if they faced any criminal offence

reforms= positive development for liberal democracy. negative development for military

= opponents of SR

Azana opposed RCC influence> felt responsible for the lack of development in social & economic progress.
