Protocols: a set of rules that govern how communications on a network should be formatted and what data they should include
They ensure that data is sent and received accurately on a network.
Protocols need to include:
- Format of the data
- Sender and recipient address
- Routing information so it knows how to travel through the network
Ethernet: a protocol used in wired LANs
WiFi: Wireless Fidelity
- Digital communications protocol that sets out how data is transmitted on wireless LANs.
