- Puritans were protestant MPs in parliament who believed that the settlement and the church were still very much catholic. Puritans didn't like Bishops as they believed that their survival meant that the pope still had an influence. They wanted to remove vestiments, preists, bishops and they didn't want Elizabeth to have control of the church. The puritans were threatening because they attacked her authority as well as the effectivness of her settlement, they were vocal as seen in John Fox's book of Maryrs.
