Macronutrients - Protein 

Macronutrients are foods such as protein, fat and carbohydrate, which are needed in larger amounts.

Proteins are needed for the growth and repair of body tissue, muscles, blood cells and maintenance of the body. If we eat more protein than we need, the excess is used as a source of energy. 

What are proteins made up of?

Proteins are made up of amino acids which are made of:

Nitrogen

Oxygen

Carbon 

Hydrogen

Phosporus (sometimes)
