Properties of water

Surface Tension:

• Elastic tendency of liquids
• They occupy the smallest surface area possible
• How easily a liquid can resist an external force

Cohesion and Adhesion of Water:

• Water is attracted to water
• Water is attracted to other substances

SHC of Water:

• Amount of heat per unit mass is required to raise the temperature by 1 degrees Celsius.
• Water heated up slower which means it has a higher SHC as it has strong hydrogen bonds which means that more energy is required to break them.
  • This means it provides a stable temperature for living things
