  • Religious responses would argue that God has a particularly good reason for not intervening to prevent evil.This argument frequently involves the argument of free will humans have free will and if God prevented evil from happening this would be interfering with our free will. If there were no possibility of causing anyone harm, for example, then people would be unable to make a meaningful choice to bring about a good action because it would not be possible to do otherwise.
  • The problem with miracles therefore is that they can compromise free will. By God intervening to rescue the Israelites from Egypt, God was reducing the free will and perhaps responsibility of the Egyptians to make their own decisions.
