Plants Need Minerals Too

The Essential Minerals: 

  • Nitrogen
  • Phosphorous
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium

They are naturally found in the soil, but in low concentrations and therefore fertilizers are used. Plants absorb these minerals through root hairs as ions dissolved in water.

Nitrogen/Nitrates

  • To make proteins for cell growth
  • By creating amino acids to form proteins

Potassium: 

  • For respiration and photosynthesis
  • To help the enzymes in these processes
