Meristems and Cuttings
- Plant meristem cells are unspecialized and are kept by plants throughout their lives.
- They are used as back-up cells that divide to grow new organs and tissues. A meristem increases the number of cells and the width of the stem.
- Gardeners use meristems when they grow new planst from cuttings (shoots or leaves cut from a plant). In the right conditions, they grow roots and become new plants.
