sensori-motor stage (0-3 years approx):

  • babys early focus is on physical sensations and develop physical co-odination.
  • therefore the baby is relating what they see (sensory) and what they can do (motor)
  • object permanence: babies stop looking for an object if it was removed from their sight (they dont understand that is still exists even if its hidden)

pre-operational stage (2-7 years approx):

  • by the age of 2, toddlers can use language but lack reasoning ability
  • children at this stage has not developed operational thinking i.e they are pre-operational
  • this means that they do not think in a consistent logical way
