Electricity generators in power stations are driven by turbines.

Coal, oil and natural gas are burned in fossil fuel power stations.

Uranium or plutonium are used as fuels in nuclear power stations. Much more energy is released per kilogram for nuclear fuels than for fossil fuels.

Nuclear fuels do not produce green house gases :) they do however produce radioactive waste, which has to be stored safely for centuries.

Biofuels are renewable sources of energy. Biofuels such as methane or ethanol can be used to generate electricity.
