- electromagnetic waves move energy from place to place
- ALL ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES TRAVEL THROUGH A VACUUM AT THE SAME PACE BUT HAVE DIFFERENT WAVE LENGTHS AND FREQUENCIES
- we group the electromagnetic spectrum on wave length and frequency
- RADIO-->MICROWAVES-->INFRARED RADIATION-->VISIBLE LIGHT-->ULTRA VIOLET-->XRAYS-->GAMMA RAYS
- radio waves- highest wavelength but lowest frequency
- gamma rays- shortest wavelength but highest frequency
- different wave lengths of the spectrum are relfected, absorbed transmitted differently by different surfaces and substances
- higher frequecy=more energy
- visible light is detected by our eyes, we see the different wave lengths as different colours
