mechanical energy transfers 

falling objects trasnfer energy between stores 

when an object falls work is done on the object by the force due to gravity this is (weight)

some of the energy in its GPE is transferred to its kinetic store. 

if something is thrown upwards by applying a force to it the work done by the force causes it to gain height, and energy in its kinetic store is transferred to its GPE store. 

in practice some of the energy will be dissipated throught heating…
