Static Electricity

- Stationary charge caused by friction between two insulating materials, when the materials come in contact with each other they become charged which can lead to the attraction of dust or hair.

Good conductors, such as metals, allow an electric charge to pass through them. Insulators, such as plastic, do not. A substance that gains electrons becomes negatively charged, while a substance that loses electrons becomes positively charged.

Static electricity can occur in

Rabbit hair

Human hair

silk

Proton - positively charged

Neutrons- No charge

electons- negatively charged

when two insulating materials are rubbed together, they create an electro-static charge as a result of the movement of electrons passing from one material…
