Photosynthesis: two stage process 

uses the suns energy to make glucose 

6CO2 + 6H20 --> C6H12O6 +6O2

it changes carbon dioxide and water into glucose and water and energy 

takes place in chloroplasts in plant cells

chloroplast: contains green pigment which absorbs the light energy 

• first, light energy is used to split water into oxygen gas and hydrogen ions 
• carbon dioxide gas then combines with the hydrogen ions to make glucose and water
