Photosynthesis produces glucose using sunlight

  • Photosynthesis is the process that produces food in plants. The food it produces is glucose.
  • Photosynthesis happens in the leaves of all green plants- this is largely what the leaves are for.
  • Photosynthesis happens inside the chloroplasts, which are found in leaf cells and in other green parts of a plant. Chloroplasts contain a pigment called chlorophyll, which absorbs sunlight and uses its energy to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose. Oxygen is also produced.

Carbon dioxide + water (sunlight and chlorophyll) = glucose + oxygen

6CO2 + 6H20 = C6H1206 + 602

  • Photosynthesis is an important process because it converts light energy…
