A photocell directly converts light energy to electrical energy. A photocell uses any type of light whereas a solar panel only uses sunlight.

A photocell converts solar energy into electrical energy. It has the great advantage that it can operate in remote locations. The power generated depends upon the intensity of the sunlight and the surface area of the cell which is exposed. The sun's energy can also be harnessed via the wind which can be used to drive turbines which generate electricity.
