Phonetics Terminology: Early Mistakes

Early Mistakes

  • Addition - adding extra vowels (usually at the end of words) e.g. horsey
  • Deletion - leaving off the last consonant e.g. 'cat' becomes 'ca'
  • Reduplication - repetition of certain sounds e.g. 'weewee'
  • Substitution - one sound is swapped for another (easier to pronounce) e.g. 'rabbit' becomes
