PHOBIA: a persistent and unreasonable fear of an object or situation 

Phobias can last many years and often begin in childhood or early adulthood. They are often more common in women and can often lead to feelings of inadequacy 

There are 3 types of phobia:

1. SPECIFIC PHOBIA - fear of a specific object

- This fear must be immediately when exposed to feared stimulus

2. SOCIAL PHOBIA - fear of a social situation

- Fear of embarrassment in social or performance situations

3. AGORAPHOBIA - fear of open spaces

- With panic attacks = person is afraid
