Phenylephrine Hydrochloride

Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 2.5% eye drops.

Indications:

  • topical mydriatic 
  • can be combined with other mydriatics/cycloplegics to assess deeply pigmented eyes

Administration

  • use a topical anaesthetic to avoid stinging
  • adults - one drop in each eye. another drop can be instilled after 1 hour if needed. do not exceed two drops.
  • children - one drop.
  • not recommended for use in newborns.

Contraindications:

  • cardiac disease, hypertension, aneurysm, thyroxicosis, tachycardia
  • insulin dependant diabetes
  • mono amine oxide inhibitors
  • trycyclic antidepressants
  • high blood pressure
  • untreated angle
