Aim: To see if rehearsal is necessary to hold information in the short term store

Method: Partisipants were given sets of three letters to remember (such as GYK,MTW) but are immediately asked to count backwards in threes out load for different lenghs of time. This was done to prevent rehearsal. Partisipants were then asked to recall the letters in the
