PET Scans- used to look at FUNCTION

• produces a computer generated picture of the brain
• a tracer is injected into the body which emits radioactivity
• this shows which area of the brain in functioning
• it measures blood flow and oxygen use
• the more active the brain for a task the more radioactivity will be picked up by the scan
• the different colours are interpreted by the specialist
• Red/Orange shows high activity
• Blue/Green shows low activity
