KeyStudy1:Cutler et al-The effects of the expert witness on jury perception.
Aim:Whether expert testomony effects jurors decisions.
Procedure:
- 538 undergraduates
- Viewed a videotape of a mock trail robbery
- Afterwards they completed a questionaire containing the dependent measures which were:
their verdict , a memory test , rating scales of how confident they were in their verdict.
There were 4 independent variables:
1.Witness identifying conditions , these were either:
GOOD-no disguise , a hidden gun, a 2-day delay in identification and no leading questions.
BAD-robber disguised,handgun,14-delay and suggestive instructions during the line up.
