- 1864 London Sewers System was built by Joseph Bazalgette
- 10% of people in Newcastle had piped water while Birmingham had 20%
- the poor had to queue for water, get it from sandpipes or not at all
- in Manchester 1871 the Parliamentary Select Committee on the Protection of Infant Life found that every child in a nursery had infestations due to lack of cleaning water
- although it did slightly become better in 1875 in Edinburgh with 50% having piped water…
