Perfect tense

The Perfect Tense relates to events which:

·         Took place in the past

·         Happened just once

·         Have been completed


They use the Auxiliary Verbs ‘être’ and ‘avoir’:




Je suis


Tu es

Tu as

Il/Elle/On est

Il/Elle/On a

Nous avons

Nous sommes

Vous avez

Vous êtes

Ils/Elles  ont

Ils/Elles sont


Most Verbs take avoir

DR MRS VAN DER TRAMP  and reflexive take être









And the past participle. In the Perfect Tense, these are:


-er becomes –é

-ir becomes –i

-re becomes –u
