Peace and Conflict

?

Violence - When is it justified?

Violence - Behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage or kill someone or something. This can include: assault, arson, **** or murder.

Justice - 'Bringing about what is fair and right'.

Examples of justified violence... self defence, army, or suffergetes.

Examples of not justified violence... terrorism, holocaust, or discrimination.

Forgiveness and Reconcilliation

Reconcilliation - Where two groups/people make amends. For this to happen forgiveness must be given. A famous example of this is... Corrie Ten Boom, she was a Dutch Christian when the Nazi's were around and hid some Jews in her house and gets sent to a concentration camp and afterwards she did lectures about how she had forgiven the Nazi's.

Christianity and Forgiveness

Four reasons Christians forgive...

- 'Love thy neighbour'

- The Parable of the Lost Son

- The Golden Rule

- The Lords Prayer 'forgive those who trespass against us'

Terrorism

Terrorism- The use of violence and threats to intimidate. Often directed at civilians with the purpose of getting a government to do something.

Why do people commit acts of terrorism?

- Out of retaliation for attacks on their 'people'

- As revenge for an injustice

A famous example of terrorism is...

- Manchester attacks 2017 - 23 killed

The negative effects of war

Some examples of short term effects... death, loss of homes, and direct violence.

Some examples of long term effects... poverty, and emotional issues e.g. PTSD

Some specific examples...

- Hiroshima (killed 100,000 people)
