Participant Observation

Definition: The researcher gains entry to a group, becomes a member of the group and takes part in the activities. The researcher observes, records and interprets the data

Examples of participant observation

  • W.F WHITE - Street corner society - befriended a gang member.
  • D.Hargreaves - Social relations in a secoundary school - became a teacher.
  • James Patrick - A glasgow gang - belonged to a gang
  • Okely - '' The traveller gypsies'' - became a gypsy.
