- Secondary storage - can be used to transfer data between devices, hold data within a computer when RAM is full or when the computer is switched off e.g. the hard drive. RAM is too expensive to have 100's of GB of data so secondary storage is used to hold data from the computer. Increasingly, this is in solid state form however, magnetic and optical are also used.
