How does static electricity cause lightning?
The light and positively charged particles are formed at the top of a cloud. The negative particles formed at the bottom. When particles grow large enough, lighting occurs between both charges in the cloud. Lightning between cloud and ground-A build up of positive charge on the ground attracted to negative charges in the bottom of the clouds. Positive charge connects with negative charge, causing lightning.
