Osmosis

Osmosis:

Definition - the net movement of water from a region of high water potential to low water potential, across a partally permeable membrane (diffusion of water).

Water Concentration - the amount of water molecules bjut realtive to solute.

Water Potential - the ability of molecules to cfross a membrane

• Water moves down a concentration
• Hydrogen bonds occur between solute and water
• Pure water has the highest water potential
• Solutions with lower water potential or a negative water potential have a greater amount of solute
