ALCOHOLS

.They mix well with water to produce neutral solutions with a pH at around 7

.Many organic substances dissolve in alcohol- This makes them a good SOLVENTS

.Ethanol is the main alcohol in main alcoholic drinks

.When they burn they produce carbon dioxide and water:

ethanol + oxygen -----> carbon dioxide + water

.They are used as fuels and can be used in petrol

.Sodium reacts with alcohols to produce hydrogen gas..... but this isn't as vigorious as when sodium reacts with water

.Alcohols can be oxidised by chemical oxidising agents to produce carboxylic acids

.Some micobes in the air can oxidise ethanol naturally to produce
