Organ functioning & malfunctioning

?

The digestive system
Large, insoluble food molecules are broken down into smaller soluble molecules
They can then be absorbed into the blood stream via the small intestine wall

Enzymes are chemicals that speed up the breakdown of large molecules. Enzymes are named after the chemical they breakdown.
Test for starch= using iodine solution black indicates starch is present
Test for sugar= using Benedicts solution heat in water bath and colour change indicates how much sugar is present
Starch-amylease-glucose
Protein-proteases-amino acids
Fats-lip ease - fatty acids

Organ malfunctioning
Constipation - passing motion less often than you normally do
Symptoms - wind bloating cramps
Causes- lack of liquid, lack of fibre, stress

Heart burn- acid contents of the stomach pass backwards of the stomach up into the gullet
Symptoms- burning, sour taste, differculty swallowing, wheezing
Causes- eating large meal, alcohol

Stomach ulcers - damages to the inner lining of the stomach or the upper part of the intestine
Happens when membrane of lining of the digestive system breaks down.
Symptoms - burning pain,
Avoid- spicy food, coffee,smoking, alcohol
Treatment-medicines reduce acid production to help it to heal

Exercise

When you exercise your muscles work harder so they need more energy from food. Cells respiration- releases energy. Respiration needs oxygen. Which is delivered by the blood via the heart. Breathing takes in oxygen into the body.the muscles create co2 so they need to breathe out more co2. They need O2 to release the energy…
