Pacifists, clergy and women
- Early protestors incl well known pacifists like A.J. Muste
- Sep '63: SANE (Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy) called for US disengagement from Vietnam
- Quaker Alice Herz burned herself to death in '65 in protest at the war
- Women's groups got involved early as well with "Mothers against War"
- They included feminists such as Jane Fonda also known as "Hanoi Jane" for her sympathy towards N.Viet
Students for a Democratic Society
- Student demonstrations occured when Madam Nhu came to the U.S in Oct '63 organised by SDS
- Growing opposition to the war among teachers and organised 'teach-ins' and by end of May '65, 120 colleges and universities were involved in teach-ins
- Easter March in April '65, the SDS organised by the SDS attracted 20,000 protestors
- Rallies held for those picked by the draft where they burnt them- draft dodgers fled to Canada
