The one child policy is a policy created by the Chinese government in order to control the growth in population. The policy was introduced in the year 1970s, when the population exploded during that period and all couples in China were only allowed to have one child.

Although the one child policy is widely stretched across china, the policy is stricter in some cities in comparison to the others. For instance, the one child policy is strictly applied in Sichuan in both rural and urban areas.

The one child policy was introduced in the 1970s, with the objective of reducing the population growth. There has been an obvious decline in fertility rates from 5.81 in 1970 to 2.72 in 1978.
