Are nuclear power stations safe?

Many people argue that nuclear power stations are not safe due to all of the radioactive waste that is produced from the fission reaction. This waste is very harmful to the environment and is as follows:

Intermediate level waste

This waste consists of fuel cladding.

It is a dangerous waste because the radioactivity of it stays the same for 10s of 1000s of years.
