In some elements the nuclues in large and untable e.g urainim - only applies to certain isotopes

1. in nucluear fission the nuclues of these elements splits 

2. when a urannium nucleus absorbs a neutron this tirggers the nucleus to undergo fission (split)

3.when the nucleurs splits it forms 2 smaller nucli roughly equal in size also known as the daughter nucli
