Not My Business- Niyi Osundare

  • Set in Nigeria but could be anywhere a tyrannical leader rules
  • About how we can let things happen out of fear of getting involved
  • Tyrants use food as a weapon-only worry about eating
  • Line length irregular- unpredictable
  • 1. "One morning"- can happen at any time
  • 2. "Beat him soft like clay"- hit repeatedly. Simile-reduced to something less than human- clay symbolises funeral or burial
  • 3. "Stuffed him"- object- without care- claustrophobic
  • 6. "Yam"- becomes a symbol of cruel dictatorship and for wealth and possessions
  • 9.
