Nitrogen fixation is the process of turning nitrogen from the air into useful nitrogen compunds.

The haber process is a non-biological way of fixing nitrogen.

Most of the ammonia produced by this process is used in fertilisers.

Fertilisers increase crop yield, therefore helping to feed people.

Ammonia is used in indistry for the manufacture of esplosives, plastics and pharmaceuticals.

Fertilisers can leach into rivers causing eutrophication. This is when an algal bloom is caused blocking the sunlight into the water for plants in the
