What roles does the news reader play? 

The job of a news reader is to present stories to the public in an unbiased and unopinionated way.

Do they conform to sterotypes?

Newsreaders tend to conform to sterotypes of their own- formal clothing, speaking in recieved pronunciation etc. However, in news shows aimed at younger audiences (BBC Three, Newsround etc) these sterotypes are ofte broken. 

Who might the newsreader be for your channel? Draw up a list of qualities that you feel suit

a) a conventional newsreader

  • formal clothing- suits
  • recieved pronunciation
  • between ages of 25 and 45
  • well groomed
  • well educated

b) a newsreader for 14-18
