Networks and Stand-alone computers

HideShow resource information

When a computer is used without being connected to other computers it is said to be stand-alone
If data needs to be sent to another department then it needs to be printed out on paper or copied onto a disk for entry into their computer system. Information flow occues all the time in organisations so it makes sense to have a method that makes information exahnge easier and faster, such as by connecting the computers together by cables. A group of computers connected this way is called a computer network
